Push the bed against the longest wall and leave about 60cm clear on each side you walk past. Before you commit to a wardrobe, check that its doors can swing fully open without clipping the bed or the door frame.

• Platform bedframes: a lower profile that keeps the room feeling open rather than boxed in.
• Upholstered bedframes: softer and cosier to look at, though they need a bit more care in our humidity.
