Allow 60cm per person along the table edge, and 80 to 100cm between the table edge and the nearest wall so chairs can move freely. For a 4-room BTO, a 4 to 6 seater table is usually the practical size.

Pedestal base tables also make it easier to tuck chairs in fully compared to four leg designs, a small win in a tight dining area.

Table Shape Matters

• Rectangular: most versatile, maximises seating, sits against a wall well. Best for narrow HDB dining areas.
• Round: no sharp corners, a more intimate dinner, and suits square rooms.
• Oval: a generous surface with a softer visual line.
• Extendable: compact daily, expands for a bigger gathering.
