Getting the Dimensions Right

Plan on 60cm per person along the table edge, and leave 80 to 100cm between the table edge and the nearest wall so chairs can actually be pulled out. For a 4-room BTO, a 4 to 6 seater table is usually the sweet spot.

Tables with a pedestal base let you tuck chairs in much more easily than four-leg designs, which is a small thing that matters a lot in a tight dining corner.

Table Shape Matters

• Rectangular: the most versatile shape, seats the most people, and sits neatly against a wall. Usually the best fit for narrow HDB dining areas.
• Round: no sharp corners to bump into, feels more intimate, and suits square-shaped rooms well.
• Oval: a generous surface with a softer shape overall.
• Extendable: stays compact for everyday meals, then opens up when the whole family's coming over.

Chair and Table Pairing

Standard table height runs 73 to 76cm, with seat height at 43 to 48cm, a pairing that keeps everyone comfortable through a long festive meal. Armless chairs also tuck under more completely when space is at a premium.
